Precious stone Globe EARTH Desktop Revolving Brass Base Compass

This is a handcrafted gemstone world globe, often referred to as an inlaid pietra dura globe. These decorative pieces are painstakingly constructed by talented artists using over 25 to 30 different semi-precious gemstones and shells from around the world.   Each country is represented by a different stone, individually cut, ground to interlocking shapes, and polished. Common stones include Lapis Lazuli (often used for the deep blue oceans), Mother of Pearl, Jasper, Jade, Amethyst, and Tiger's Eye.  The globe is mounted in a heavy gold-plated or brass-tone metal stand, which often features a rotating meridian and an integrated glass-topped compass at the base. The globe rotates 360 degrees and is gimbaled so it can be tilted to view any place on earth easily.
